Teens Make a Difference Day

The NIKE club is participating in Teens Make A Difference Day, Saturday October 20th 2007. Adult volunteers are needed to supervise and assist the teens.

Approximately 2,000 volunteers will head out across the community Saturday, Oct. 20, to work on service projects for non-profit agencies. Each year leaders in the community work alongside the groups of teens as Community Captains. We would like to invite you to join us.

Teens Make a Difference Day is a project of the Nonprofit Center of Wichita Falls. This is its sixth year, and it has grown from 300 volunteers to close to 2,000. The day gives teens ages 13 to 19 a feel for the impact they have in their community and the goal is to spark a lifelong love of volunteering. In 2006, hundreds of teen volunteers tackled 77 projects, doing $122,000 worth of work on one Saturday morning. Working with role models, such as yourself, gives them a chance to see that volunteering is important to people who lead in their community.

As a Community Captain, you would work with a group of teens, talk with them about what you do, and let them see that improving the community is important to you! The projects run from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 20, followed by lunch from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the Iowa Park Recreational Activity Center (RAC), and you will also receive a T-shirt.

Adult volunteers are needed to act as community captains. If you would like to help please contact Cindy Hambright or complete our contact form.
